Vietnamese Name in Chinese Characters

vinhlong -
I was wondering if anyone could help me translate the following vietnamese name "Bao Uyen" into Chinese.

I actually have little idea of the meaning. I think it was supposed to mean something like "preserve wisdom" But I can't find any character combination that matches this meaning.

Thanks in advance.

Vinh Long

nnt -
Bảo Uyên: 保淵 (渊 simplified character)

There is a Chinese-Vietnamese on-line dictionary here:

http://www27.brinkster.com/hanosoft/

and here:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/dang.tk/langues/hanviet.htm

You should find the meaning easily...
nnt -
In the previous transcription Bảo Uyên: 保淵, bảo 保 means to protect, to preserve, as in bảo vệ 保衛 bao3 wei4 (simplified 卫 ) , and uyên 淵 yuan1 (simplified 渊) means deep pool (noun) or deep, profound (adjective) as in uyên thâm 淵(渊)深 yuan1 shen1.
There is another possibility for bảo, if you are not sure of the actual meaning is "to preserve". It's bảo 寶 bao3 (precious, treasure) as in bảo bối 寶貝 (宝贝) bao3 bei4 (Sure you know "Shanghai baby"! ).
Both transcriptions are possible.
vinhlong -
Thank you very much for your quick reply NNT! You really helped me out here!

I didn't make the connection between "deep" and "wisdom".

Thanks again!
russianborn2906 -
Anyone would help me to translate this name into chinese :
Nguyen Lie^n Hu)o)ng
And I'm so sorry I don't have Vkey
HashiriKata -
Nguyen Lien Huong =
阮莲香 (Ruǎn Liánxiāng)

"Lian xiang" means "Lotus Fragrance", and that is my best guess for "Lien Huong", but I could be wrong unless you tell me what "Lien Huong" is intended to mean in Vietnamese.
russianborn2906 -
@HashiriKata:
You are spot on! Lien Huong means Lotus Fragrance in Vietnamese.

China's economy may fall into deflation

www.chinanews.cn 2005-08-01 09:47:25

(Source: Xinhua)

July 31 - At the second China economic observation forum, some economists
predict that China's economy may fall into a deflation characterized by
persistent consumer price decrease.
Lin Yifu, Director of China Center for Economic Research (CCER) of
Beijing University, said at the forum held quarterly by CCER that China
is expected to see deflation caused by overcapacity in the latter half of
2005.
Wang Jian, Deputy Secretary General for the Economic Research Institute
under State Development and Reform Commission, said that decreasing
growth of Consumer Price Index (CPI), dropping enterprise profits, as
well as losses in downstream industries areall signals that China's
economy has taken a cooling trend.
According to Wang, China's economy has reached the middle phase of the
highly-growth cycle driven by heavy industry investment since 2003. So
the investment is expected to fall in 2006 despite a continuing rapid
growth, he said.
As for the consuming sector, because this year's good harvest may result
in somewhat decrease of farm produce prices, Chinese farmers, accounting
for China's largest population, is expected to see their net income
growth of this year lower than that in last year, which will limit the
expansion of the domestic demand to a large extent, said Wang.
On the other hand, the lower expectation of this year's economic growth
in Japan, the European Union and the United Statesfor such factors as
soaring oil price will also lead to the decrease of China's export
expectation, he said.
As a result, with this cycle of investment tide draws to a close in 2007,
most new capacity will be put into production and it is inevitable to see
over-supply and price decrease then, said Wang.
China's economy has been in the alert zone of deflation, said Yuan
Gangming, research fellow of the Center for China in the World Economy of
Qinghua University. Professor Song Guoqing of CCER has the same worries.
Through data analysis, Song demonstrated that the 9.5 percent growth of
China's GDP in the first half of this year was driven by the growth of
favorable trade balance to a large extent as the real growth of domestic
demand is only 3.5 percent.
So there is possibility of weak demand and so deflation in certain period
of time, said Song. But he predict the deflation will not last long.

CNPC produced 65m tons of crude oil in 1st half

www.chinanews.cn 2005-07-22 13:49:28

Chinanews, Beijing, July 21 (By Jia Quanxin) - Sources from the China
National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) said that the company saw strong
growth in the first half of this year, contributing to ensuring oil and
gas supply for the domestic market.
In the first half, CNPC produced a total of 65.45 million tons of crude
oil, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%. Turnover from main businesses
reached 335 billion yuan (41.3 billion USD), 39.6% higher than the
comparable period last year.
As a backbone state-owned enterprise, CNPC has accelerated development of
main businesses and striven to build itself a resource-saving enterprise
in order to guarantee oil and gas supply for the domestic market. In the
first six months, CNPC made great efforts in exploring new oil and gas
resources, with the newly-added proven reserves accounting for 60% of the
planned volume for the entire year. It produced 65.45 million tons of
crude oil, up 3.9% year on year, and 18.4 billion cubic meters of natural
gas, increasing 20.1% over a year earlier.
At the same time, CNPC also actively participated in international
cooperation on oil and gas exploration. Its international business
reported stable development. In the first half, its output of overseas
oil and gas rose 9.6% and 8.1%, respectively, compared with the same
period last year.

World's oldest panda in captivity dies

www.chinanews.cn 2005-07-14 09:09:09

The world's oldest panda held in captivity has died Tuesday at the Guilin
City Zoo in the Guangxi region, at the age of 36, or the equivalent of
108 human years. Because of her old age, Meimei had recently suffered
from eating difficulties and the gradual failure of various organs. Giant
pandas are generally found in temperate forests in central China. Among
the best recognized but rarest animals in the world, as few as
1,600 giant pandas survive in the mountain forests of central China.
Another 120 are in Chinese breeding facilities and zoos.
