The face-lifting project for the Monument to the People's Heroes in
Beijing, which will cost around 3 million yuan (US$369,900), was inviting
public bidding on Dec. 1, 2005. This project to be started in the near
future will improve water resistance and consolidate the monument. The
spotlights for night views fixed on guardrails will be shut off by then.
This is the second time to renovate the monument on a large scale after
its first mending in 1980.
