Chinanews, Apr.17 - Kazakhstan Foreign Minister K. Tokayev revealed
recently that the 20-megaton Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline would start
operation this May. In addition, the two countries are in talks on a
transnational natural gas pipeline.
At a press conference held by the Kazakhstan Embassy, Tokayev said that
the Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline is a program of strategic significance.
He revealed that China's investment in Kazakhstan focuses on the oil
industry at present. PetroChina obtained all shares of CHPC Limited and
PetroKazakhstan last year and completed the Atasu-Alataw Pass section of
the Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline, which would start operation in 2006
according to schedule. The two countries are in talks on a natural gas
pipeline between them.
